first I'm going to reverse the inequality so that there is not a leading - sign.
When this is done the inequality symbol must be reversed.

# 3(k - 4 ) < - 5(k + 4 )

now multiply out the brackets.

#rArr 3k - 12 < - 5k - 20 #

now collect like terms.

3k + 5k < - 20 + 12

# rArr 8k <-8 #

now divide both sides by 8.

# rArr k < - 1 #
