The number in subscript beside the log is the base, the number alone on one side of the = sign is the exponent, and the number in normal font to the right of the log, on the same side of the = sign is what the expression equals.

Rewrite in exponential form.

#x^(1/4) = 3#

#root(4)(x) = 3#

Take the 4th root of both sides.

#(root(4)(x))^4 = 3^4#

#x = 81#
