Explanation:
There are three codons that do not code for an amino acid, these are the stop codons. Enzymes in a cell need to know where a gene starts and stops. The stop codons signals where an enzyme can stop transcription of a gene.
The stop codons are: UAA / UAG / UGA .
The start codon is AUG, this does code for an amino acid i.e. methionine. This methionine is often removed from the final protein.
