IN 8 years time.

Let the number of years be $x$

In $x$ years time, Randy will be $14+x$ years old.
In $x$ years time, his mother will be $36+x$ years old.

At that time in the future her age will be twice his age.

(2 x younger age = older age)

$2(14+x) = 36+x$

$28+2x = 36+x$

$2x - x = 36-28$

$x = 8$
