Cytoplasm is the semi fluid gel like substance of a cell that is present within the cellular membranes and surrounds the nucleus.

It remains enclosed within the cell membrane and contains the organelles.
The cytoplasm is about 80% water and usually colourless. The outer clear and glassy layer of the cytoplasm is called the ectoplasm and the inner granular mass is called the endoplasm.
It is within the cytoplasm that most cellular activities including glycolysis and cell division occur. The cytoplasm constitutes of dissolved nutrients, salts and aids to dissolve waste products. It helps movements of the cellular materials around the cell through a process called cytoplasmic streaming.
