Explanation:

The reagent that you buy from Fisher is 32-36% (w/w), and is approx. 10.6*mol*L^-1. This is has a pungent (and very caustic!) vapour pressure of HCl.

Of course, you could buy HCl(g), which is supplied in a cylinder, but using this is often more trouble than it is worth................
