Any given reaction can occur for any given number of seconds... or hours. Or days. Maybe even years, or decades...

There are reactions like

that take about #10# seconds... and you may see syntheses in organic labs that take a few days.

Or... consider that the hydrolysis of a given peptide bond usually takes over #100# years to occur, so even though it is thermodynamically favorable, we don't have to worry about death by hydrolysis. :-D
