Fibers are everywhere in human constructs, especially clothing. They easily retain pieces of human anatomy (skin, hair, blood, other fluids) that can be used in forensic investigations.

Explanation:

Even before the availability of "DNA Testing" the affinity of fibers of many types to retain traces of human contact made them a valuable resource in investigations.

Due to their use in just about everything - from clothing to upholstery to decorations - they are usually present at crime scenes as well. They may be of forensic use directly as particular materials, but that connection can be strengthened considerably when fragments of human composition are found in them.
