Why don't NASA space crafts capture images of the universe in color?

We only see light in a very narrow range of the spectrum. Satellite images "see" a lot more.

Explanation:

Our eyes only see a very small range of the electromagnetic spectrum. many objets in space are best viewed at frequencies we can't see.

Satellites which take images take a number of monochrome images using a range of filters to select frequencies of light. Im ages are then artificially coloured and superimposed to produce the amazing images we see.

Most images use artificial colours for the wavelengths which we can't actually see.
