How are bases named?

Most bases you'll see in the first semester of general chemistry (which I will assume this question is about, because you haven't given me much information and this is relatively simple for someone who is through chemistry), have the hydroxide ion ionically bonded.

Thus, it's a matter of naming the metal bonded to the hydroxide ion.

Some examples you'll see in the lab,

#NaOH# sodium hydroxide

#Ca(OH)_2# calcium hydroxide

#KOH# potassium hydroxide
