Deforestation is when humans remove large areas of forests for non-forest use.

Explanation:

Deforestation has a negative effect on the environment. One effect is that millions of species lose their habitat because of deforestation. This could lead to loss of biodiversity. Another effect of deforestation is that it increases greenhouse gas emissions. Trees absorb carbon dioxide (which is a common greenhouse gas) because they need it for photosynthesis. By removing large forests, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing.
