To achieve a full Valence Electrons shell.
Explanation:
Atoms form two basic bonds, Covalent or Ionic bonds, to fill the full outer shell of electrons. A Covalent Bond is when two or more Non-metals share electrons to make the complete Valence Shell, while Ionic Bonds are with at least one metal and one nonmetal, and the metal gives it's Valence Electron(s) and becomes a positively charged ion and the nonmetal takes the Valence Electron(s) and becomes a negatively charged ion and the two ions attract.
