Action potentials are generated in nerves, which carry information at over 265 mph in the form of electrical impulses!

This is what enables your body to almost instantly react to stimuli (i.e. bolting out of the way of an oncoming car, or, even faster, jerking your hand away from a burning stove).

But no matter how hard you try, you can't make a plant flinch if you pretend to kick it.

This is because plants are not equipped with sensory organs and nerves in order to respond quickly to stimuli.
