#H_"2"O# has partial charges and can therefore bind to salts like NaCl, causing the density to rise.

Explanation:

#H_"2"O# has a partial negative charge at the O and a partial positive charge on both the H's causes by the difference in masses. (The heavier particle will pull more on the electrons, causing it to become more negatively charged)

Salts are dissolved in water by these charges. Na+ is stabilized by the negative charge of water whole Cl- is stabilized by the negative partial charge of water .

The death see has much salt causing it to be more bonded to the water. Since these salts are pretty heavier then #H_"2"O# the density goes up!
