# Are all carbohydrates polymers?

May 1, 2017

Simple sugars like glucose and fructose are monomers, both with the molecular formula ${C}_{6} {H}_{12} {O}_{6}$. This is the stuff polymers are made of, when a lot of them are chained together.
Table sugar sucrose may be considered a dimer of glucose and fructose, formula ${C}_{12} {H}_{22} {O}_{11}$.
