# A strong base releases more what than a weak base?

Aug 5, 2017

Strong bases give solution that are stoichiometric in hydroxide ion.....

#### Explanation:

And thus a strong base such as $N a O H$ or $K O H$ dissolves in solution to give stoichiometric quantities of $H {O}^{-}$ and ${M}^{+}$, i.e.

$K O H \left(s\right) \stackrel{{H}_{2} O}{\rightarrow} {K}^{+} + H {O}^{-}$

...the ions are aquated in solution.......

On the other hand, a weak base does not give stoichiometric quantities of hydroxide......

CO_3^(2-) +H_2O(l) rightleftharpoons ""^(-)HCO_3 + HO^-

....the equilibrium lies to the left........
