I believe the ecological/environmental may be self-explanatory.

Drought can have serious social and economic impact. It can cause water prices to go up, but as well as cuts in water use and fines for people who use too much water. Many people do no take drought seriously.

Reducing carbon emissions are what a lot of politician and countries focus on. The U.S and China have the highest carbon emissions. There was a recent meeting in Paris, I believe, to set goals to reduce these carbon emissions.
