Can someone please explain the Scramble for Africa?

Preferably its causes, effects & political and social changes?! Please help! I need this soon!

Colonization

Explanation:

Europeans managed to invent cures for diseases like Malaria, build steam ships, and have the technology necessary to colonize inland Africa. Previously only the coasts were colonized as Europeans were unable to go inland, but once they managed to get the required technology to access the more unhospitable areas of inland Africa (like the Sahara), they colonized them around the 1870's. This period was known as the Scramble for Africa.
