Duplicating answers in different subject fields?

I know Socratic states that we should not copy and paste an answer from one question to another question, which makes sense. However, if I wrote an answer in Earth Sciences and I spent a lot of time and effort on it, and I'd like to see a similar question and answer in the newly created subject, Environmental Sciences, is it okay to ask the same question and copy and paste the answer? Provided I wrote the answer? (To be honest, I think I've already done this at least once.)

Sure.

Explanation:

The way I see it, there's nothing wrong with adding the same question in a different subject field and using an answer you already wrote.

Especially if you spent time and effort writing it!

Socratic's policy about not using copy paste for your answers is directed at multiple questions that are posted within the same subject area.

As you know, we are able to merge duplicate questions, which is a very useful feature to have for identical questions posted in the same subject field.

Since you want to have the same question in separate subjects fields, I think that the do not use copy and paste policy doesn't really apply.

In my opinion, if you have the same question posted in different subjects fields, you could use a slightly different approach for the answers.

For example, I'd answer a question like Why does ice float on water? from different perspectives in Chem and in Physics, so maybe that's something to keep an eye out for.

Anyway, this depends on the actual question, so I'm sure that you know best what answer works where.

To answer your question, I'd say

By all means! :)
