# How do molecules differ from elements?

Nov 26, 2015

They have different number of elements in them.

#### Explanation:

Elements are made up of only one type of atom, such as gallium, $G a$, or silicon, $S i$.

Molecules are made up of more than one element, such as trinitrotoluene, or TNT. It is composed of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. It has the chemical formula ${C}_{7} {H}_{5} {N}_{3} {O}_{6}$.

Molecules also have a more complex structure than elements, due to the fact that they contain different numbers of elements.
