In my view, the students who ask such questions need to be walked through the steps of drawing the graph to a function. In other words, they need to see the process that takes them from the function to its graph.

This questions covers a large variety of functions, from polynomial functions, to absolute value functions and rational functions.

Each of those cases comes with its unique approach, from plugging in values to finding vertices, intercepts, or asymptotes.

So yes, the process may seem simple for a lot of functions, but keep in mind that the level of the students varies significantly, which is why it is so important to walk them through the process.
