# How do you group and factor 4jk-8j^2+5k-10j?

Oct 30, 2014

In order to factor by grouping it is important to group the pairs in a way that when factored the variables will match.

$4 j k - 8 {j}^{2} + 5 k - 10 j$

$\left(4 j k - 8 {j}^{2}\right) + \left(5 k - 10 j\right)$ Factor out a common factor from each group.

$4 j \left(k - 2 j\right) + 5 \left(k - 2 j\right)$

Now that you have a common factor you can pair the factors outside of the parenthesis.

$\left(4 j + 5\right) \left(k - 2 j\right)$
