The given equation is presented by the following form:

#18 - (2a - 5) - 2(a + 2) = 3a + 5#

The above equation can, then, be reduced to:

#18 - 4a + 1 = 3a + 5#

Rearranging the terms in the above equation, one will be able to get:

#18 + 1 -5 = 3a + 4a#

#14 = 7a#
