# What are two types of chemical bonds?

$\text{Ionic and covalent}$
Ionic bonding involves the transfer of electrons between the bonding parties, to form positive and negative ions, to give a network solid of the the ${M}_{m} {X}_{n}$. Within this non-molecular species there are no discrete ${M}_{m} {X}_{n}$ units, and the structure is held together by strong electrostatic bonds (between typically a metal and a non-metal).
