What is meant by the "localised rings in the air film" in the newtons rings experiment, however the rings form on Plano-convex lens?

The rings are localised on the air film and not on the lens. The lens simply traps a thin film of air between itself and the glass plate for the thin film interference to take place.

You veiw them through the lens! However, the fringes just like any other case of thin film interference are localised on the thin film.
