It is the organisme that produce gamete, witch are hapoïde cells that are used for reproduction.

Explanation:

Vegetals that have a complexe cycle of life like fern, moss or a lot of algae have différents generation. For instance in algae there are trigenetique cycle, two with sporophyte who produce spore to creat the next generation and one who produces gamete wich will fusion to form a zygote and therefor a sporophyte. enter image source here

You can see on this reproduction cycle of an algae the precens of gametophyte male and female who produces gametes
