The universe is 13.8 billion years old, so one might expect that the "edge" of the universe would be 13.8 billion light years away, if the speed of light is the fastest thing possible.

However, the universe is growing in a way that space itself is expanding, so that light travelling towards us from very far away is like walking down the up escalator.

As such, the most distant, theoretically detectable things in the universe have moved considerably farther away since they emitted light 13.8 billion years ago. The present estimate for the radius of the observable universe is 46.5 billion light years.
