How does increasing and decreasing the temperature affect the pressure of containe of gas?

1 Answer

Increase the temp = increase the pressureenter image source here

Explanation:

Assuming that you haven't let any gas in or out of the container and you haven't let the container get larger or smaller, if you increase the temperature, it will increase the pressure. If you decrease the temperature, it will decrease the pressure.

I am including a picture of the equation(s) that apply.

On way to think of it is if you look on spray can, you will often see a warning something like, "Do not puncture or incinerate. Do not expose to heat or store at temperature above 120 degrees F. ". If the can gets too hot, the pressure will increase, possibly to the point of the can exploding open.
