Explanation:

The oxide anion has an electronic configuration equivalent to that of neon. While oxide salts are very reactive, certainly I can isolate alkali and alkaline earth metal oxides, i.e. #M_2O#, and #MO#. Thus we do not speak of antibonding electrons in the oxide anion.
