Set the absolute value function equal to 0:

#|x + 2| = 0#

#x + 2 = 0#

#x = -2#

This tells us that the minimum point occurs at #(-2,3)#

The right side graph has a slope of 1, therefore, we shall move 2 to the right of the minimum and plot the point #(0,5)#. Then we shall draw a ray from #(-2,3)# and through #(0,5)# toward infinity.

The left side graph has a slope of -1, therefore, we shall move 2 to the left of the minimum and plot the point #(-4,5)#. Then we shall draw a ray from #(-2,3)# and through #(-4,5)# toward infinity.
