China ruled much of Vietnam for much of its ancient history (pre 939 CE). Its Language is a Tonal Language like Chinese. The Vietnamese copied Chinese Government.

Explanation:

The Vietnamese viewed China as a mentor and a threat. The Viet people are a distinct group in Southeast Asia. They successfully rebelled against the Chinese and held the area against invasions by other cultural groups.

There are many people of Chinese descent presently in Vietnam but they actively discriminated against. Government positions are held for those of proven Viet descent.

The Vietnamese written language uses roman characters as a base. This was influence by the Catholic Priests that entered the country after 1600.
