How do exercise and high altitude affect the respiratory system?

At very high altitudes, the density of air is less, ie their is less air particles available per unit volume, and hence also less oxygen particles available.
Therefore the respiratory system will be under more pressure as less oxygen molecules will be able to diffuse into the lungs and get taken up in the blood so the person will have more difficulty breathing, even more so if he exercises on top of it all still.
