The term in the middle has to be split into two terms.
TO find them, first multiply $6 \times 6 = 36$

Find which pair of factors has a difference of+ 5?

$+ 9 - 4 = 5$

So this tell us how to write $5 y$

$6 {y}^{2} + 9 y - 4 y - 6$

=$3 y \left(2 y + 3\right) + 2 \left(- 2 y - 3\right)$

=$3 y \left(2 y + 3\right) - 2 \left(2 y + 3\right)$

=$\left(2 y + 3\right) \left(3 y - 2\right)$
