# How do you write Y = 3x^2 - 6x - 2 in vertex form and identify the vertex, y intercept and x intercept?

May 19, 2015

x of vertex:
$\left(- \frac{b}{2} a\right) = \frac{6}{6} = 1$

y of vertex: f(1) = 3 - 6 -2 = -5

Factored form:$f \left(x\right) = a {\left(- \frac{b}{2} a\right)}^{2} + f \left(- \frac{b}{2} a\right)$=

$f \left(x\right) = 3 {\left(x - 1\right)}^{2} - 5$

Check by developing: $f \left(x\right) = 3 \left({x}^{2} - 2 x + 1\right) - 5 = 3 {x}^{2} - 6 x - 3.$ OK
