# What does the Pauli exclusion principle state?

Jul 15, 2018

Below

#### Explanation:

Pauli exclusion principle states that no electron in an atom can have the same 4 quantum numbers. The quantum numbers are $n , l , {m}_{1} \mathmr{and} {m}_{s}$

$n$ is the principal quantum number

$l$ is the angular momentum quantum number which determines the shape of the orbital

${m}_{1}$ is the magnetic quantum number and describes the orientation of an orbital around the nucleus

${m}_{s}$ is the spin quantum number and has 2 possible values ie ${m}_{s} = \pm \frac{1}{2}$
