# What is (x+y)^2?

Sep 13, 2014

It is simply ${x}^{2} + 2 x y + {y}^{2}$.

To get this answer, you'd just need to separate this into $\left(x + y\right) \left(x + y\right)$, and then foil it out.

You'd get ${x}^{2} + x y + y x + {y}^{2}$

Now since $x y$ and $y x$ are mathematically the same thing, we can combine them to make $2 x y$.

Hence the final answer is ${x}^{2} + 2 x y + {y}^{2}$.

Hope that helped :)
