Why were genetically modified foods created?

They were mostly created to allow farmers to kill insects, increase production, and save money.

Explanation:

Yes, it does indeed sound somewhat selfish, but they have been proven to be unharmful. People that genetically modified foods take genes from other another organism and insert it into the crop. Some of these genes kill insects that eat the leaf, prevents weeds from overtaking them, and grow more seeds. Although these are just some basic things that occurs, there are many more controversial topics as well.
